Abstract
"The genetic bases of intelligence"
Quantitative genetic research consistently suggests substantial genetic
influence on individual differences in intelligence. The same set of
'generalist' genes appears to contribute to diverse learning abilities and
disabilities (such as reading and mathematics) as well as to diverse
cognitive abilities and disabilities (such as verbal and spatial).
Researchers are attempting to identify some of these generalist genes using
new molecular genetic techniques such as microarrays that genotype 500,000
DNA markers simultaneously and thus make possible genomewide scans.
