Abstract
"The nature of intelligence and its development"
Intelligence has been conceptualized very differently by psychometricians, interested in
its evaluation, and by developmentalists; in particular, the Piagetian theory considered that
intelligence underwent qualitative changes across development, yielding general stages. These two
perspectives will be presented and compared, and propositions to reconcile them, in particular at
the light of neo-Piagetian theories and from a lifespan developmental perspective, will be presented.
